Grace Martin Franklin is a Raleigh based abstract artist who works in acrylic to break down natural forms into compositions defined by line, shape, and color. Her intuitive approach to abstract lends itself to a variety of styles and techniques that define her diverse body of work. Grace's work is a reflection of her distinct cognitive perspective and exploration of deconstructing and reconstructing her observations. Grace Martin attended Meredith College where she earned a degree in Interior Design and Studio Art followed by a K-12 teaching license in visual art. Grace currently teaches at Longleaf School of the Arts where she imparts her passion for creative exploration to aspiring artists. Process Grace Martin combines her love of interior design, color, and line work into her passion for experimentation in her works. Many of her works are painted on repurposed canvases that are too worn or layered to be reused in class. Each new work presents its own problem to solve with existing texture, line work, and mediums. Many works are created in her home studio, but she is always at work during any break she has in her teaching duties. Each work follows the feelings, chaos, creativity and fulfillment she experiences in the classroom. The joy she gets from teaching and creating with her students lends itself to the wide variety of processes and styles she uses in her own works. |
